ABOUT US

Calverton Baptist Church is a warm, friendly, and welcoming church with its building in a central position on the main road in the village. We are in a conservation area within the village and our building is classed as a ‘place of historic interest’. The church currently has 28 members – we are spiritually alert and Bible-led.

a) Leadership    Interim Moderator, Secretary, Treasurer, and Deacons. The church encourages sacrificial giving (including tithing), monthly celebration of Communion and the witness of Believer’s Baptism as appropriate.  It financially supports BMS, Operation Agri, SIM, and a number of local charities. Our main weekly Worship Services take place on Sunday mornings, and we are blessed with our own Worship Leaders and preachers who, with our Moderator, share the conduct of our services and work as a team.

Since 2022 we have committed ourselves to a 5-year ‘Carey Project’ within the Church (“Expect great things from God; attempt great things for God”) and are moving towards its climax in 2026 (see under 'OUR VISION' tab).

b) Activities in progress    Our activities include  Bible Study/discipleship groups (4), a Newcomers’ Group, Prayer Meeting, Prayer Chain (with counselling by a trained church member), fellowship after Service, social events.  We have a church choir that meets weekly that provides outreach for concerts and special events. Each Friday afternoon we hold our ‘Together@Calverton’ get together in the Church. This is a friendship and social action group attended by a wide section of the local community. We have Craft Sessions; Plant Exchanges; Clothes Swaps, Cake, tea, chat and lots of laughter.

Further, we have a weekly coffee morning which is well attended by church attenders, the local community, and passers-by – plus a monthly lunch club.  We host a Toddler Group and a toy library – and there is some church input at their special events. We also, in conjunction with the local
Core Centre, support and run a Bereavement Course (validated by the Holy Trinity Church, Brompton) which is for people of all faiths or none.
We are also experimenting with ‘Open House’ Services and a home-based ‘Big Questions’ course for enquirers.  We have seasonal social events and participate in village events

We have good relationships with other Calverton churches (Anglican, Methodist, RC, and ‘Kingsword’) – ‘Calverton Churches Together’ –  which has its own choir that meets in our church to practise for its regular outreach concerts.  The churches work together each year at the (May) ‘Village Get Together’ with a tent that promotes the churches’ work and as an outreach to the village.  The ‘VGT’ begins with a united open-air service.

There are regular monthly Services at the Springwater Nursing Home which are supported by all the churches in the village.
