OUR SERVICES
Our weekly worship services take place on Sunday mornings with the celebration of Communion usually on the first Sunday of the month. We have a team of preachers and worship leaders – including the present Moderator – with several gifted keyboard players and occasional instrumentalists. Our service themes are normally geared to the church’s Daily Bible Reading plan (presently Scripture Union’s ‘Daily Bread’) and our preachers often highlight topics arising from the passages of the preceding week – which is helpful to our people.
The ethos of our services is ‘informal’ and participatory, and reflects our concern to be real with God and each other. On the other hand, they are well-prepared and flexibly structured and express our ‘gathered’ wish to hear what God has prepared our worship leaders and preachers to deliver. While most of our Sunday mornings present Biblical teaching, we have recently introduced ‘Open House’ services at regular intervals to welcome our many village and personal contacts to ‘get a taste’ of who we are, what we do and what we stand for. These are times of fun – and experiment – as well as challenge!
Since we believe that ministry flows from worship (Ezekiel 47:1-12), we want our worship to be the beating heart of all we do – to praise and please God first of all and to be the source of inspiration and perseverance for our own personal Christian living. To worship together at the beginning of each week is vital for our ‘family unity’ and for our individual day-by-day faithfulness.
In addition to our regular Services, we try and ‘exploit’ the Christian festivals for both outreach and up-build – and try to think creatively and biblically about inherited traditions.
We make ourselves available to those in both joy and sorrow in the church and village - and are happy to arrange special services for Funeral Thanksgivings, Weddings (our building is registered for the Marriages of heterosexual couples), and for the Blessing of Children and the Dedication of Parents.
It is a special delight to us to hold Services of Baptism for those who wish to register their faith publicly as the Lord commanded – and then to join the church as members.
